Thankfulness for Angela's service

Celebrating Angela's Service at Shiloh

Angela Elem moved to begin an adventure that will expand her already long list of capabilities and skills. Angela's gifts have served and positively shaped Shiloh over her 20-year journey (16 years on staff and 5 as a camper).

Her dedication to the mission of camp has led her from camper to Camp Director! She has been in every major role at Camp Shiloh, growing from a counselor-in-training to the co-lead in the kitchen at just 19. She continued as Program Staff in various roles until the past two years where she led the camp community as Camp Director.

Angela was an integral part of our city work starting in 2013 as the leader of the HiDef teen program, offering weekly mentorship and activities that translated to teens thriving in long term relationship building. When not leading there, she supported our after-school programs in countless ways.

“Angela is like my Auntie. I always connected with her at camp, her steady presence could bring the peace no matter what. Did she scare me sometimes? For sure, but it was really about being fair and safe, just behaving yourself and for sure she would call you on it.” Angela has served over 3,000 children and teens, building relationships with many that have lasted long into their young adult journeys.

Angela’s enduring commitment on behalf of the children of Shiloh has been an anchor through challenges showing perseverance and an abundance of love in her own quietly loud, capable ways. She has been relentless in offering support and intentional strategies to help young people grow in their choices, learn to give back, use their voice, and hold themselves accountable.

We are already watching young leaders step into those spaces where Angela once stood, and celebrate how those she led, are now the leaders.

PS: It's Angela's birthday month, send her some love!
